In a busy auto shop, a cordless grease gun can make life a lot easier and more productive. Rechargeable cordless tools are everywhere these days and grease guns have joined the family. I would recommend this tool to anyone who is greasing on a regular basis from a professional auto shop to a construction company that owns a fleet of equipment.

Lincoln Powerluber

The Lincoln Powerluber cordless grease gun is a great product for the professional mechanic. It comes loaded with features to help you get the job done.

My favorite feature is the two-speed switch that controls grease flow. This switch can be set to either give you high volumes of grease flow at 10 oz a minute at medium pressure or give a concentrated stream at high pressure. The high pressure setting will give you about7500 psi of working pressure! Your average grease gun simply doesn't give you that kind of versatility. Lincoln claims that in controlled conditions this model can reach pressures of up to 10,000 psi.

The Powerluber is well designed

The design of the Powerluber is another feature that stands out. Lincoln does a great job building a balanced tool that rides well in your hand. It is comfortable to use and can get you into most places to apply grease. This cordless grease gun has a slot to accept an optional shoulder strap which I would recommend getting. Especially if your climbing around large equipment to grease it. With the shoulder strap you can let the cordless grease gun just hang from your shoulder and grab it when you need some grease. A shoulder strap can also save you from dropping it on the concrete and damaging it too. This unit also comes with a 30" hose that is long enough to get into tight spots. The grip is also padded which adds to the comfort factor.

Powerful Cordless Grease Gun

Lincoln put a powerful little motor in this cordless grease gun to make sure there is plenty of power available. A powerful 14.4 volt high torque motor is the power source behind this tool. It's the reason this little jewel can pump out so much grease and give you higher pressures. The 14.4 volt batteries have enough juice to last and the smart charger can recharge one in under an hour. However, I would still recommend getting the model with 2 batteries. If you are using your cordless grease gun continuously, you will want to have the 2nd rechargeable battery warming up in the charger. This will allow you to make a quick switch and keep greasing. The Lincoln Powerluber is also easy to clean with simple access to clean out contaminated grease.

For the professional mechanic a cordless grease gun can be a great addition to your tool collection. Greasing can be a tedious chore, but with a Lincoln Powerluber, you can almost make it fun.

Convert Your Car to a Hybrid for $100

Convert Your Car to a Hybrid for $100

Okay, it's official. Even the cheapest gas is over four bucks a gallon. And the morning news said it would likely be five dollars per gallon by July 4th!

The obvious solution, if you can afford it, might be to buy a hybrid. But that can be an expensive answer, even after factoring in savings at the pump. Unfortunately most hybrids cost anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 more than their "gas only" counterparts and finding a good used hybrid is near impossible.

In this article, we'll look at two options to get you huge fuel savings; 1.) finding the best deals on a hybrid and 2.) converting your current car, truck or minivan into a hybrid. First for the best deals...

To find the best deal you need to factor in all the angles. Let's start with some added benefits of driving a hybrid. Some states, like California and Virginia, allow a single occupant to use the high occupancy vehicle lane (or carpool lane) if driving a qualified hybrid. If you've ever been stuck on an LA freeway or the Capital Beltway during rush hour you might fork over the extra few grand for that little benefit alone.

If you're looking for more monetary incentive, ask the dealer about Federal and state tax benefits for buying a hybrid. You might qualify for up to $5,000 in tax credit depending on the vehicle you buy and where you live.

As for cost, it depends on what you want. Most dealers can barely keep a hybrid on the lot so they are not likely to make great incentive offers. If you need a car big enough for the whole crew try to avoid the temptation of hybrid SUVs since the typical fuel savings is far less than that of a four or five seater car. If you only need a two seater, consider the "Smart Car" http://www.smartusa.com/ . They have features you expect on a $40,000 luxury import, like 5 speed automated manual transmission with Paddle shifters, but with a price tag of $11K for a simple "pure" model to $16K for the luxury sport Cabriolet convertible. And of course you're getting about 40 to 45 mpg with whatever model you choose.

Now for the second option; convert your current vehicle to a water fuel (hydrogen) hybrid. Don't worry, it sounds a lot harder than it is. I converted my 1995 Isuzu Pickup for $106 in just a few hours (including the time it took to go buy the parts.)

I'm not talking about adding batteries and changing the way the engine works. You can build or buy a simple hydrogen conversion kit for about $100 and install it in less than a half hour. It only takes 5 minutes to remove if you ever want to and does not alter your engine.

There are two quick and easy ways to convert your car to a hydrogen hybrid. You can go with a system that uses ordinary tap water (from any household faucet) or one that uses distilled water. Both work great and cost about the same to build and install or you can buy one ready built.

First is the one I've used, that works with plain tap water. "RunYourCarFromWater.com" offers a complete easy to understand DIY hydrogen hybrid manual for $49, http://www.RunYourCarFromWater.com. The parts to build it cost about $50 to $60 and you can get the parts from your local Wal-Mart or hardware store.

They guarantee a minimum 40% increase in your gas mileage. I got more than double that on my 13 year old pickup truck (about 90%) so 40% is a bit low in my experience. You'll probably do much better.

Or you can try "Water for Gas", which uses distilled water in its fuel cell. The manual is $97 and is available from http://www.Water4GasWeb.com. The site also offers info on how to buy a readymade conversion unit and tips on getting a mechanic to install it for you.

Doing it yourself you will probably recoup all expenses in a month or less, depending on how much you drive. If you buy a readymade unit and pay a mechanic to install it, it might take a few months to pay for itself.

I hope you have a chance to experience just how great it feels. Good luck!

Considering The Herpes Virus

Considering The Herpes Virus

Herpes is, essentially, the name given to a viral infection. The virus that causes the infection is called Herpes Simplex Virus. Herpes Simplex Virus comes in different forms, but its main variations are Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV 1) and Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (HSV 2). Beyond the common cold, herpes is likely the most common viral infection in existence.

The symptoms of an HSV 1 infection are typically referred to as cold sores -- sometimes fever blisters, sometimes oral blisters, and there are other descriptions as well. During an appearance of HSV 1 symptoms -- symptoms don't always appear -- an outbreak of blisters occurs, typically around the mouth and face. Infection with HSV 1 is extremely common: up to ninety percent of people are infected with HSV 1, though not everyone infected with HSV 1 present symptoms.

The symptoms of an HSV 2 infection are typically referred to as genital herpes. Twenty percent of adults, roughly, have an HSV 2 infection, but the recognition of symptoms is rare: only twenty percent of people, give or take, infected with HSV 2 are aware of their status. When HSV 2 symptoms appear, they usually appear in the area of the genitals. HSV 2 infection is classified as an STD.

As a rule, HSV 1 and HSV 2 infection present in different parts of the body. The appearance of HSV 1 typically occurs above the waist, and appears most frequently of all above the neck. It is possible for HSV 1 to occur below the waist: it's rare for this to occur, but it does. HSV 2's affects are mostly seen above the waist, typically about the genitals. When HSV 1 or HSV 2 happens outside of their respective infection regions, symptoms, should they occur, are typically less severe and less frequent.

All HSV infections spread through direct skin-to-skin contact, and when HSV symptoms appear they affect the skin, usually through blistering. There's some belief that HSV infection can be passed from secondary objects -- a public utility, a towel, a glass, etc. -- but the evidence doesn't support this. As a rule, HSV infection is transmitted by skin-to-skin contact.

A bit of an exception to HSV's skin-to-skin infection rule is ocular herpes. Ocular herpes is a herpes infection of the eye(s). Ocular herpes is typically spread from some form mouth to eye transmission: going to the mouth, where an HSV infection is found, and then going to the eye and transferring the HSV infection there. Ocular herpes can be a quite serious condition that may affect sight.

The official thinking on an HSV infection is that it is permanent: it's basically accepted that HSV stays permanently in the body, hidden from all immune responses. This having been said, there are some HSV treatments that claim to eliminate HSV from the body, or to permanently end HSV symptomatic outbreaks.

Consider Wind Generated Electricityfor Your Home

Consider Wind Generated Electricityfor Your Home

People have been using wind turbine power for centuries. In the past, wind
turbines were used to carry and distribute water for irrigation or to mill
grain. Nowadays, wind turbines are used to generate electricity. Due to ongoing progress in wind turbine technology, more homes now are capable of harnessing
wind power to satisfy their electricity needs.

Even if you are one of those few skeptics that discredit global warming, it
still makes sense to consider generating your homes electricity with a renewable
energy source. Rising costs and degradation of air quality are reason enough to eliminate the use of carbon based fuels such as coal and oil. Who would not
like to breathe fresher air and at the same time thumb their noses at the
utility companies? People are looking for ways to cut down the need for
conventional sources of electricity, eliminate their electric bills and preserve
the beauty of the environment. One of the effective ways of doing this is with

the use of wind turbine generated electricity.

Wind turbines produce no pollution and by using wind power you will be
offsetting pollution that would have been generated by your utility company.
Over its life, a small residential wind turbine can offset approximately 1.2
tons of air pollutants and 200 tons of carbon dioxide and other gases.

In a normal residential application, a home is served simultaneously by the wind turbine and a local utility. If the wind speeds are below 7-10 mph there will
be no output from the turbine and all of the needed power is purchased from the
utility. As wind speeds increase, turbine output increases and the amount of
power purchased from the utility is proportionately decreased. When the turbine produces more power than the house needs, the extra electricity is sold to the
utility. All of this is done automatically. There are no batteries in a modern residential wind system.

Over the course of a year a wind turbine typically lowers the electricity bill

by nearly 90 percent. It is not uncommon for wind turbine owners with totally
electric homes to have monthly utility bills of only $8 to $15 per month. The
wind system will recoup its investment through utility savings in as little as
six years, after that the electricity it produces will be virtually free. Many
people buy wind systems in preparation for their retirement in order to avoid unpredictable increases in utility rates.

Currently, prices are as low as $6,000 to have a wind turbine installed in the
average home to provide most all electrical needs. Homes use approximately 9,400 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per year or about 780 kWh per month. A wind turbine rated in the range of 5 to 15 kilowatts would be required to meet this
demand. A wind turbine is easily retrofitted to virtually any home without the
need to change any wiring or appliances. In most cases, the utility will install
a second utility meter to measure how much surplus electricity it is purchasing
from the turbine owner.

Most small turbines have very few moving parts and do not require any regular maintenance. They are designed for a long life (up to 20 years) and operate
completely automatically. Over the long term, a wind turbine is an excellent
investment as it saves money, reduces environmental pollution and also increases property value.

Computer Technology Merging With TV Technology More All The Time

Computer Technology Merging With TV Technology More All The Time

Over the past decade, there has been a phenomenal amount of crossover between computer technology and TV technology. This is especially surprising given the fact that most Americans have largely rejected the idea of a living room computer. However, most of the computer technology that has found its way into the living room hasn't had the overt appearance of a personal computer.

The earliest example of an acceptable piece of computer equipment in the home entertainment center (that wasn't a video game platform) was the digital TV receiver. The widespread use of these devices actually dates back to the early nineteen nineties when satellite TV became economically viable for typical households. By all outward appearances, it would have been easy to blur digital TV receivers together with any other set top box, but underneath it all was the fact that they converted digital data to the sounds and images that made up TV.

The DVD player was a much more obvious example of the blurring between computer and TV technologies. After all, by the time that DVD players became common, CD-ROM drives had been on computers for years. Since both are optical drives, and computers and DVD players loaded their discs in similar ways, the resemblance was pretty plain. Of course, CD's had been in stereo systems and computers for years, so people were already used to seeing the resemblance there.

The next major change was the digital video recorder. DVR's as these devices are more commonly known, can record video onto computer hard disks and then play that video back later. Most models also automatically record whatever the viewer is watching live in order to enable the pausing and rewinding of live TV. Among the advantages that DVR's have over VCR's is an ease of programming that none of the manufacturers of VCR's ever got right. Another advantage of DVR technology is an ability to watch recorded programs in any order. That's because a hard disk doesn't store video sequentially like a video tape does. In other words, a video file can simply be accessed without the time wasted cuing through other videos.

Over the years, computers have also taken on a number of the same capabilities that's previously only been reserved for TV sets. For example, it's been possible to buy a special TV tuner that can be installed in a computer for years. These devices allow computers users to watch TV right on their computer screens. These days though, this capability is standard on many computers to some extent. For example, most modern computers can display streaming Internet video on their screens and laptop computers have been used to watch DVD's for years. There are also now special adapters available that contain a TV tuner and connect to laptop computers through a USB port so that users of laptop computers can watch TV on the screens of their laptops.

The most obvious hybrid between computers and TV equipment is the media center computer. These devices are DVD players, DVR's, digital receivers, and Internet browsing machines all combined into a single unit. They're likely to be the future of TV technology.

Competitive Forces in the US Steel Industry

Competitive Forces in the US Steel Industry

Image source: https://image.slidesharecdn.com/oncompetitionchapter1-thefivecompetitiveforcesthatshapestrategy-150705102231-lva1-app6892/95/on-competition-chapter-1-the-five-competitive-forces-that-shape-strategy-1-638.jpg?cb=1436091810

In a liberal market economy where the forces of demand and supply are the major determinants of price and terms of trade, businesses have to formulate strategies that are aimed at positioning it for competitive advantage. Competition exists in the steel industry both in the US market and globally. The competitive forces affect all the companies in the industry and how best a firm's strategies will influence its success. In the US steel industries, players like Nucor are faced with various elements of competition.

To begin with, there is competition for the inputs that are required in the production of steel. The industry core input is from recycling of scrap metal. The many firms in the industry thus compete for these metals used in production. There is also competition for market share between the players. Market share determines the level and volume of sales that a firm makes and therefore influence e the profits to a firm (Porter, 1998). The foreign suppliers further tighten competition for market share in the steel industry. Firms in this industry as well are faced by the threat of entry by new firms as this may influence negatively on the performance of the already existing firms. Michael Porter five forces model can be applied to explain the competitive forces in this market. According to porter, the five factors that influence the performance of firms are the threat of entry of new firms, threat of substitute products, bargaining power of suppliers, bargaining power of customers, and the rivalry among firms (Porter, 1998). These five forces will affect operations and determine the policies to be adopted by firms to ensure that the competitive edge against competitors is attained. In this market for instance, there is high bargaining power of customers. Customers in the steel industry are very sensitive to price changes and are concerned about the quality of the products. This therefore makes the firms in this industry to produce at the lowest cost possible without compromising on the quality.

The second element of the porter's model is the threat of new entrants. New entrants will compete for the same customers and will fight for a control on the market share (Nilsson & Rapp, 2005). The fight for market share is a zero sum game where if one firm increases its market share then the others will lose their share. In the US industry, there is threat of entry of very new firms or formation of partnership, alliances, or mergers that will make the competition stiffer. Nucor Corporation has therefore increased its acquisition of new firms and reduced the bureaucracy to ensure flexibility and better performance. The industry is thus highly competitive.

The bargaining power of suppliers also exists in the industry because of the many firms in the industry. In this industry, firms have to look for scrap metals that are molted and used in producing steel products. The companies must therefore offer good prices for input for them to have continued supply of raw materials and reliable suppliers. The third force is the threat of substitute products. Substitute products have similar uses and satisfy the same need, therefore becoming important for competition. Industries that are characterized by the existence of closer substitutes are highly competitive and must ensure quality production and good pricing. Continuous restructuring and strategies are also important for the success of the firms. Presence of substitute products in the steel industry, together with the imports from china, turkey and other foreign countries have made competition stiff in this industry (Thompson, 2010). The four forces together with the rivalry among firms are the component of the five forces model. The rivalry among firms is determined by the ease of exit, branding, product identity, product difference and switching cost. The low cost of switching and the ease of exit makes the steel industry in US and globally be highly competitive.

Future profitability of steelmakers the increase in the demand for steel products for the development projects makes the industry to be profitable. The competitive forces will also be on the rise given the entry of new firms and the attractiveness of the industry. A trend analysis into the company's financial performance shows an increase in the earnings posted by the firms in the industry. For example, the profit of Nucor increased from $ 310.9 million in 2000 to $1757.7 in 2006 (Thompson, 2010). This increase in the net earnings has been propelled by the high demand for steel and the strategies formulated to achieve market growth.

Nucor must therefore expand in the market if it has to realize better performance. Through acquiring more firms and expanding in new markets, the company will increase the sales turnover and enjoy economy of scale production. It will also compete favorably with other firms in the steel industry from within and outside the US economy. Expansion will also assist in the increase of their market share and help in reducing the variations in the returns to the firm. Nucor is also likely to increase their supply base and enjoy better technology that will enhance efficiency in production. Expanding their operations is therefore called for if the company has to benefit from the better result. Nucor strategy

Nucor has adopted the growth orientation strategy where the company aims at increasing their market share through acquisition of new firms and the expansion of the existing ones. A growth strategy increases the share in the market and result into the increase in sales and profits (Nilsson & Rapp, 2005). The strategy is evident from the company's increased acquisition, upgrading of the existing plants and the formation of joint ventures. Joint ventures enable the company to enter into new markets quickly and to reduce the cost of entrance. New plant construction and the use of better methods of production are all elements that Nucor has adopted a growth strategy. The strategy has made the company realize increase in profits and a corresponding increase in the number of their customers.

The generic strategy that has been adopted by Nucor is the cost leadership strategy. This strategy targets a broader market and promotes low cost of production (Porter, 1998). To gain a competitive advantage in an industry, the firm must show to its customers that they will get value for their money. The cost leadership strategy is adopted in cases where there are many competitor and the customers are very sensitive to prices. Nucor has achieved this strategy by keeping their cost of production low and at the same time producing a wide range of products. Through this, the company has become one of the largest steel companies and was at one time the biggest in US steel market.

The strategy has also seen the company compete favorably with the foreign firms that imports steel at a lower cost in the US market. The company need to expand their operation should be carried out while taking into account the economic factors and the demand of steel in the targeted countries. Foreign operations should only be made in areas where there are prospects for having good returns. The operations be in countries where the regulations support the growth of industries and are not discriminatory. To ensure that the acquisitions and the mergers are beneficial to the company, they should be evaluated and only viable mergers should be pursued. The management should also strive to improve the relation with the employees and their grievances should be addressed in ways that result into amicable solutions. Employees whose interest and plight are satisfied will work towards achieving the overall organizational objectives. The organizational structure of the company should remain simpler and one that promotes innovation and quick decision-making
